James Gunn, a prominent filmmaker in Hollywood wanted a comprehensive website that utilized the ingredients of popular social websites like MySpace and Facebook as well as a place to write and publish his massively popular blogs.

He also wanted to be able to share pictures and video and post fun things he thought were interesting.

He already had a community established on the JGAS (James Gunn Appreciation Society) message board and wanted to continue that on his own site. To do this, he wanted to have a SSO (single sign-on) for the site and the forum to make it easy for new friends to register and comment in both places and give existing friends the ability to carry their status over from the old board to the new.
